Twenties retrospective

Today, as I turn (the product of the first three primes) years old, I decided I should write a retro post on the previous decade of my life 🙂

I want to acknowledge that I am thankful to God, my family, coworkers and friends for I believe I am the product of the interaction with them and their behaviour.

For me, the twenties were awesome. I am very satisfied with what I’ve accomplished on both personal and professional level. Of course, there were a bunch of bumps on the road, but those are what make us stronger.

Here’s a complete timeline:

  1. 2008-2009: have fun with my wife (then girlfriend), playing games (a lot), hanging out with friends
  2. 2010: landed my first job as a Software Engineer, got married, and my first kid was born
  3. 2011: completed few certifications like EMC, C programming, etc.
  4. 2012: landed a secondary job as a consultant, switched primary job to a startup
  5. 2013: finished renovating house, started blogging (I realized the importance of writing), switched primary job to a different startup
  6. 2014: leave primary job and focus consultancy/remote work, bought my first car
  7. 2015: second kid was born, finished undergraduate studies (B.Eng. Informatics)
  8. 2016: first US travel (consultancy) in Cupertino
  9. 2017: landed a cool job, started travelling more (both work and family), bought my second (family size) car
  10. 2018: first book

Here’s a list of some stuff that I do on a regular basis, which I believe resulted in the timeline above:

  1. Be curious
  2. Learn how things work at the core level
  3. Never stop (self-)learning
  4. Contribute to open source
  5. Learn the language of Mathematics
  6. Blog, a lot. Putting thoughts into written form is tricky, but can shape you as a character
  7. Love your closest ones and support them

I hope that my thirties will be at least as good as my twenties, maybe even better. 🙂
