Disclaimer: I am not a politics expert (whatever that may mean) nor have I read any books about politics. My background is in software engineering and maths.
Every party wants to be the ruling party
- A political party is formed with the intent of it to be a ruling party.
- A political party spends resources on marketing.
- Therefore every political party wants to be ruling.
Every politician must lie sometimes
- Assume a politician of a party A always tells the truth.
- Assume there’s an opposing party B.
- Since every political party wants to be ruling, opposing party B can abuse the truth.
- Since every political party wants to be ruling, Party A doesn’t want the truth to be manipulated and lose points.
- Therefore it is not the case that a politician of party A always tells the truth, that is, a politician of party A must lie sometimes. Without loss of generality, every politician must lie sometimes.
Lying can be a simple fact about GDP, or even worse when combined with the fact that every party wants to be ruling: manipulate the population into believing that the other party is the ultimate evil.
I was waiting for you to expand on an example where we assume both party A and party B were telling the truth. How would that work out if they both want to be ruling?

Interesting! I haven’t put much thought into that case. Brutally honest politicians are very rare – I have yet to meet one. I guess all parties would converge to a single party?
Anyway, I would love to see how that would work in practice! Perhaps in our lifetime?

Thinking further: Politicians A and B, brutally honest, admit they actually don’t want to do politics. We now have to create job ads, asking for qualified folks who really want to serve the people.
So yes, perhaps in our lifetime π

That’s a likely scenario, but, does “serve” include lying? Or merely telling the truth? π

Serve is vague, sorry. I give up on politics.

I like the religious definition of the word “serve”. But politics is mostly about wordplay and fact twisting from what I’ve seen π
